I want to hide God’s Word in my heart. It’s life-giving, and so graciously given to us by the Author and Creator of the universe. One of the ways I do that is by making time in my daily life to study and read the Bible. Drawing on God’s wisdom is a privilege that’s made possible by the work of the Holy Spirit, who inspired each word contained in the Bible. The Holy Spirit speaks to us by illuminating our understanding of scriptures, transforming us, and helping us to apply God’s Word so we can grow in faith and become more like Jesus.

In light of those thoughts on God’s Word, I decided to compile a few scriptures and quotes from respected Christians about the importance of the Bible. The following ten quotes are some of my favorites:

1. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

2.“I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good from The Savior of the world is communicated to us through this Book.”― Abraham Lincoln

3.“The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home.”― Augustine of Hippo

4.“When the world beats you down, open up your Bible.” -Lysa TerKeurst

5.“Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the book widens and deepens with our years.” -Charles Spurgeon

6.“Don't fall into the trap of studying the Bible without doing what it says.” -Francis Chan

7."Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." -Psalm 119:105

8.“The primary purpose of reading the Bible is not to know the Bible but to know God.”― James Merritt

9."All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work." -2 Timothy 3:16-17

10."But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night." -Psalm 1:2

God’s eternal, inerrant Word is the basis behind all wisdom for life.  If we want to hear what God is saying to us, then we need to be spending time in daily Bible study. Memorizing it, meditating upon it, and keeping scriptures verses in front of our eyes are all important ways that we can soak in the goodness of God’s Word.

I love that there are so many wonderful resources available to help us do keep God’s Word at the center of our lives. Below are a couple of those resources that I love (and was recently made aware of):

A friend of mine, Sarah Geringer, recently wrote a book about the power of God’s Word to transform your thought life. It’s appropriately named, Transforming Your Thought Life: Christian Meditation in Focus. It’s available wherever books are sold on October 1st, 2019 (preorders available). In Sarah’s words, here’s what it’s about:

“Transforming Your Thought Life offers guided meditations and personal examples that will help you train your mind to stay grounded in God’s Word. Each chapter examines a particular kind of negative thought pattern and provides key Bible verses and prayers for standing strong against it. Day by day, as you hide God’s Word in your heart and mind, you will move closer to the heart and mind of God.”

I was able to read an early copy of it, and the following is my review:

Sarah carefully goes through the different harmful thought patterns that are common to so many of us and offers practical, scriptural ways to combat those through Christian meditation. I loved the practical and clear guidance that is offered in this book and highly recommend it.

One more way I like to meditate on God’s Word is by leaving scriptures in places where I’ll see them often. Incorporating scriptures into my home decor is a fun way to do that. I was recently given the opportunity to review some items from The Commandment Company. This company has beautiful gift items that, in many cases, feature scripture verses. In the words of the founders:

“We seek to create personalized designs and gifts that encompasses God's truth and love, in hopes that it has inspired you to share that same love to others. We hope The Commandment Co. sends a meaningful message that speaks to people at different, yet every season of their lives.”

Here are the items I ordered: a couple of decorative pillow covers for my living room, and an art print I put in my bathroom. I appreciate the high quality and beauty of these items and will definitely be ordering again in the future, keeping them in mind for future gift-giving occasions, too.

If you’re already meditating on God’s Word daily, feel free to leave suggestions in the comments on how you do that. I’d love to read your ideas!

I’ll close with one final scripture:

“As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.” Psalm 18:30
